These "skipped-level" apartments, designed in 1923, are generally credited as Breuer's first architectural design. A corridor on alternating floors gave access to interlocked duplex apartments, some of which featured double-height living rooms. The façade elevation reveals Breuer's early interest in complex patterns derived by varying the size and placement of windows. Bauhaus Archiv records indicate that the design was created for a 1924 competition sponsored by Bauwelt.
