In 1957, Breuer, in association with Belva J. Barnes, produced designs for a penthouse apartment for Patrick McGinnis, who served as president of the New Haven and Boston and Maine Railroads. The large penthouse was divided into a three-bedroom apartment and staff areas, each with their own entrance. Unusual among Breuer projects, the spaces were covered with a series of concrete barrel vaults of various sizes. The facades were to be a combination of exposed concrete, ceramic mosaic tile and sliding glass windows, but the project was never built.
