Breuer, assisted by eight third years students at the Graduate School of Design, proposed a redesign of Harvard Yard. The scheme places classrooms and administration buildings at on the south edge of the site with dormitories on the northern edge. All of the buildings were to be located far enough away from nearby Massachusetts Avenue to minimize noise. All of the buildings owe a debt to international modernism. The dormitories are executed as Zeilenbau, parallel linear structures running north to south so as to provide optimal access to sunlight.
