The New York City gallery owners, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wise, asked Breuer to build them a version of his own vacation cottage in Wellfleet, Mass. Breuer reversed the floor plan but otherwise the houses were the same. The cottage was a long rectangle clad in vertical cedar tongue and groove boarding and raised on pilotis. The living-dining area was located at one end with the bedrooms at the other. A screened porch supported by trusses and accessible from the living room extended from the house, and a walkway connected a studio space to the main volume of the house. A lower deck was added to the house in 1972.
