Breuer and his partner Hamilton Smith designed the Flowering of American Folk Art exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art. The exhibit design consisted of counters, platforms and sliding planes that divided the floor into discrete rooms and defined the circulation path through the space. Just seven years earlier, the two men had designed the building housing the exhibition, producing one of the seminal buildings of Breuer’s long career.
