Mapping Marcel Breuer

Marcel Breuer’s architectural legacy spans over half a century and several continents, including North America, Europe, South America, and Asia. During most of his career he had been working on multiple projects at the same time. This was only possible due to an ever growing network of collaborators such as associate architects, partner firms, suppliers etc. Over the course of half a decade, a rich and in-depth body of metadata was generated for the digital archive and is now used in The Mapping Marcel Breuer site to visualize spatial and temporal relationships among many of Marcel’s collaborators such as associate architects, partner firms, suppliers and clients creating a history of his life’s work. Project pins are displayed on the map when the project is visible on the timeline (5)

Filter your results by selecting “Project Types”, “Firms” or “Decade” using the respective dropdown list
Open a popup window with specific information about a given project by left-clicking on a colored pin (coded according to the project type)
Select a project by clicking on one in the project list or in the timeline below. The selection will highlight the project location on the map by popping up the project details window above the respective pin
Close pop-up window by (a) right-clicking map or (b) clicking "X" at upper right corner of the pop-up window
Move the map by left-clicking and holding anywhere on the map
Zoom in and out by using the mouse wheel while pointing on the map
Move forward and backward in time by using the mouse wheel while pointing on the timeline
Reset the display by clicking the “Reset Filters” button
Hide or show the timeline by clicking the “Toggle Timeline” button
Hide or show the project list by clicking the “Toggle project list” button
