Architect and partner of Marcel Breuer. Gatje graduated from Cornell University's College of Architecture in 1951. He worked for Percival Goodman and Skidmore, Owings and Merrill before joining Breuer's office in 1953. He was offered an associateship in 1956 and became a partner in 1965. He established the Paris office of Marcel Breuer and Associates, working on many of the firm's French projects, including the IBM building at La Gaude and the ski resort of Flaine. Other projects included the Armstrong Rubber headquarters and the Baldegg Convent. After the dissolution of MBA, Gatje worked with Richard Meier, eventually becoming his partner in 1990.
