French painter, printmaker , filmmaker and teacher. He practiced in many media but was best known for the Cubist-inspired paintings of the first decades of the twentieth-century and his experimental film, Ballet mécanique (1924). With Amédée Ozenfant, he cofunded the Académie de l’Art Modere in 1924, serving as its director until 1939. He moved to the USA to escape the second World War. In 1945, Breuer arranged for the sale of a Léger drawing to Reginald Isaacs and attempted to broker the sale of another work, entitled “Dancers.”
