Eames, Ray (1916 - 1988)

Architect, designer and filmmaker. With her husband, Charles, who she met while a student at the Cranbrook Academy in Bloomfield, Michigan, she designed furniture that exploited new technologies, ranging from plywood to molded plastic and metal wire. The Herman Miller Furniture Company employed them as designers after seeing their work in an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art. The pair also designed the Case Study House No. 8 in Pacific Palisades, CA., which was constructed from mass-produced elements ordered from catalogues. Breuer included Eames chairs in the Pack House and the first Stillman and Geller Houses.
