Allgemeine Elektricitäts Gesellschaft

German manufacturer of electronics and electrical equipment founded in 1883 by Emil Rathenau as the Deutsche Edison Gesellschaft für Angewandte Electricität. In 1887 the company was renamed the Allgemeine Elektricitäts Gesellschaft (AEG). AEG installed Germany’s first electric power system and built electric trolley systems across Germany in the years prior to 1900. Gropius and Moholy-Nagy asked AEG to contribute lighting and appliances for the Deutsche Werkbund section of the 1930 Paris exhibition organized by the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs.
