Elevation at Entry NE; Rear Elevation SW; and Side Elevations

In 1961, Breuer designed a house for Brother Frank Kacmarcik, an artist, designer and liturgical-art consultant who would later join the monastic community at Saint John’s Abbey. The project was a collaboration between Kacmarcik and Breuer in that Breuer provided working drawings for the overall design but Kacmarcik worked out many of the details with the contractor. The drawings reveal a low brick building with a flat roof and glazed walls at the narrow ends of the volumes containing the living room and the studio/library. The living spaces open off of a central entry hall that forms the spine of the house. Interior finished include quarry tile floors and cypress ceilings.
