In 1947, Stuart and Katie Scott commissioned a vacation house on Cape Cod. Breuer designed two, parallel, rectangular volumes of equal length to accommodate the clients' program and the steep incline of the site. The one-story, main house contained three bedrooms, a living-dining area and a kitchen. Breuer divided the other volume in half with a stone wall that passed through it and connected the two wings. One half contained the garage and servants quarters, and the other contained a two-story dormitory. The upper-story, faced with a distinctive, geometric sunshade, extended slightly beyond the stone lower-story. The dormitory-garage wing was not heated and was intended to be used only during the summer. Each wing possessed a terrace. Stone walls delineated outdoor spaces like the service yard off the kitchen. The Scotts added an addition to the house a decade later.
