In 1936, Breuer and Yorke designed a theater, along with dressing and rehearsal rooms, workshops and offices for the London Theatre Studio, a newly founded theater group. Breuer was largely responsible for the design but York contributed technical knowledge. Breuer renovated a Methodist chapel, creating a theater with 120 seats "and no more equipment than a number of reflectors and a portable switchboard. Behind the stage was the workshop of the school where the students themselves manufactured the sets." Breuer also created the furniture for the space, with Isokon providing nesting chairs and stools designed by Breuer. Earlier, Breuer had designed a boutique for Motley, costume and fashion designers associated with the studio.
