In 1947, Catherine and Ogden Kniffin commissioned a house in New Canaan, CT. after seeing Breuer's own house (New Canaan I). A large, paved entrance court was flanked by the garage and the children's playroom and bedrooms. The walls of the children's bedrooms were extended beyond the eastern façade and, along with the overhanging roof, served as sun protection. A two-story volume aligned on the same axis as the entrance court contained the public spaces of the house on the ground floor. The upper floor contained a study and the master bedroom with a balcony, which could also be accessed by an exterior staircase. Breuer used his customary materials of wooden siding and fieldstone for this house, which, uncharacteristically, came in under budget. The house has since been torn down.
