Designed by Breuer and his assistant Gustav Hassenpflug for the Berlin Bauausstellung in 1931, the Seventy Square Meter Apartment was Breuer's response to contemporary debates concerning the minimal living spaces or Existenzminimum. The apartment contained sleeping niches, living room, bathroom, kitchenette and wardrobe. Breuer furnished the apartment with tubular steel furniture, including a custom table and couch, along with wall cabinets and a drawer unit.
