Newton and Annette Herrick liked the Kniffin House so much that they commissioned a house from Breuer in 1950. The rectangular house, known as "Four Winds," was clad in vertical wooden siding and possessed a covered terrace on the north side and a louvered sun shade on the southern. A canopy connected the entrance of the house to a separate carport. Inside, the master bedroom and children's bedroom were at opposite ends of the house with the living areas in between. The clients complained that the fireplace, which they considered "the very core of Four Winds," did not work properly.
