In 1949, Donald and Dallas Clark approached Breuer about designing a house for them in Orange, CT. Breuer created a flat-roofed, two-story, 6,000 square-foot house set into a hillside. The garage, children's bedrooms and playroom were on the lower floor while the parents' bedroom, study, kitchen, dining and living rooms were located on the upper floor, surrounding a flagstone terrace in the center of the plan. Floor-to-ceiling windows alternated with expanses of fieldstone on the façades, and low-stone walls extended out from the house. Breuer also helped the Clarks decorate their house, ordering furniture from Herman Miller. The house was published in Architectural Forum, and numerous people visited the house during construction and after the house's completion.
