In 1952, Breuer built a weekend cottage in Lakeville, CT. for Harry Caesar, the brother of Breuer's friend and client Leslie Stillman. The house was situated on a narrow site on a lakefront and was elevated on lally columns above a small stone base containing storage and heating equipment. The upper floor was a wood-frame construction, with a combination of vertical and diagonal cypress siding that provided some structural bracing. The side walls were extended beyond the entrance façade in order to provide privacy for the inhabitants. A ramp with cable handrails leading to the entrance evoked marine imagery as did the porch which projected beyond the glazed lake-side façade. The modest cottage contained a living room with a sculptural fireplace of bush-hammered concrete and cylindrical flues, a dining room, kitchen and bathroom. The living room or porch must have doubled as sleeping quarters as no bedroom is indicated on the plan.
