Projects by Name

Harry Seidler, Breuer’s former student and employee, was given the commission for the Australian Embassy in Paris in 1973. He asked Breuer’s Paris office to act as associate architects and to oversee the construction. Breuer’s partner for the UNESCO headquarters, Pier Luigi Nervi, served as the project’s engineer. Although the design was Seidler’s, he incorporated several of Breuer’s suggestions including the modular precast concrete façade and the stepped profile of the Chancery end walls. The muscular piloti shown in the photograph to the left is also reminiscent of Breuer’s work at UNESCO and IBM.
