Seymour Krieger first contacted Breuer about designing a house in Bethesda, Maryland in 1956. Two years later, Breuer had built a flat-roofed steel frame house with largely glazed northeast and southwest elevations for his client. Low stone retaining walls framed paved terraces outside the entrance, living room and study. Like many of Breuer’s houses of this era, the children’s bedrooms and playrooms were separated from the parent’s suite by the public spaces including the entrance hall, kitchen, living and dining rooms. Construction drawings reveal that Breuer also designed built-in cabinetry for many of the rooms.
