A few years after the completion of the convent buildings, the sisters added a u-shaped infirmary and old-age home adjacent to the southeastern corner of the convent. Beat Jordi, a former employee of Breuer’s, carried out the work, sending sketches and drawings to New York that would be returned with Breuer’s detailed comments. The infirmary matched the height and materials of the existing convent and was accessed by a covered pathway connecting the two buildings. The infirmary also shared the deeply recessed modular concrete window panels arranged to produce a staggered rhythm across the façade. Breuer’s health forced him to retire before the completion of the infirmary, but he remained involved in the project after retirement.
