Between 1969 and 1972, Breuer and his partner Herbert Beckhard produced drawings for a public high school in Long Island City, Queens. The long building anchored horizontal expanses of modular precast concrete window panels in rectilinear volumes of windowless textured concrete block. The architects used these contrasting materials in combination with projecting and receding surfaces and variations in height to counteract the monumental massing of the building and add visual interest to the composition. Despite the fact that construction drawings exist at Syracuse University, the school was never built.
