This design for an office building with a modular, precast concrete façade was intended to be part of an urban redevelopment project for downtown Syracuse. Breuer’s firm received the commission in 1968 with the understanding that they would design further buildings once the developer had raised the necessary financial commitments. In June 1971, a month before the project fell through, the developers expanded the project to include two movie theaters, a hotel and a parking garage. The repetitive façade of the Bristol Center Office Building reflected the standardized floor plans and offices of the 14-story building. Heavy, faceted columns distinguished the commercial space on the ground floor from the office space above. The pharmaceutical company Bristol-Meyers would have occupied the building had it been built.
