In 1944, Almy, Bigelow and Washburn explored the possibility of building a new department store to replace their existing store in Salem, MA. Breuer prepared preliminary plans, researching possible floor layouts and construction expenses. The contractor's estimate of $300,000 convinced the store to remodel their existing building.
