During the summer of 1948, Breuer planned a vacation cottage in Wellfleet, MA. for his friend György Kepes. He decided to build the same house for himself nearby at Williams Pond. Breuer originally envisioned a community of five to seven houses on the site but only three cottages were ever built. The cottage was a long rectangle raised on pilotis with the living-dining area at one end and the bedrooms at the other. A screened porch supported by trusses and accessible from the living room extended from the house. The house was clad in vertical cedar tongue and groove boarding and featured sliding windows. In 1961, Breuer and Herbert Beckhard added a studio wing. For decades, Breuer and his family spent at least part of the summer at the cottage.
