In 1946, Edward and Margrit Fischer asked Breuer to design a guest cottage to supplement the house and studio constructed seven years earlier. A stone base containing the playroom and storage supported a larger volume housing the main living spaces. The larger volume cantilevered beyond the ends of the lower story and was clad in vertical siding at the center and in diagonal siding at either end. Exterior stairs led up to a balcony accessible from the living-dining room. The profile of the upper volume on the balcony side angled upward and outward before doubling back on itself to meet the highest point of the diagonal roof. The design was very closely related to that for the unbuilt Martine house.
