Breuer designed a house for Baltimore lawyer Thomas L. Karsten in 1955. The house, which was located in Owings Mill, MD., was a flat-roofed, single-story building with alternating expanses of fieldstone and glass. The master bedroom, living room and dining room were located at one end of the plan with additional bedrooms and a playroom at the other. A square entrance court, paved in bluestone, penetrated the rectangular volume of the building and connected the carport to the residence. Retaining walls on the northwest and southwest elevations extended the house into the surrounding landscape. The house was completed in 1956.
