In 1953, Breuer designed a "Bathroom of the Future" for the Tile Council of America. The luxurious bathroom was built in a photographer's studio and featured a tiled vanity and built-in bathtub and seat, as well as a mosaic tile floor. A punching bag was suspended from the ceiling. Earlier versions also included a rowing machine. Glass doors opened to a sun garden paved with flagstones and areas of mosaic tile and enclosed by stone walls. A built-in stone bench lined one wall of the garden and colorful cushions were strewn on the floor. Images of the bathroom were used for industry advertisements in architectural journals.
