In 1949, Arnold Potter commissioned a house in Cape Elizabeth, ME. Breuer designed an L-shaped house with a butterfly-roof. A central, slate-floored hall led to a master bedroom on one side and to the living and dining areas on the other. The children's bedrooms and playroom were located at the opposite end of the house from the parents. Part of the main living wing and the screened porch were cantilevered beyond the stone lower-story and supported by pilotis. The upper story was clad in vertical wooden siding. The client experienced significant problems with the heating system and leaks in the bedroom walls during storms. His financial problems also prevented him from paying Breuer in a timely manner.
