Breuer collaborated with his friends Jozsef Fischer and Farkas Molnár on a competition entry for temporary buildings intended for a Budapest trade fair to be held in the spring of 1935. The complex consisted of a series of glass, flat-roofed modular pavilions and an observation tower formed from a pair of intertwined spiral ramps. Despite the fact that they received first place for their design, only a couple of small pavilions from the design were constructed. According to Fischer, conservative members of Budapest's architectural community intervened, manipulating cost estimates so that the design appeared too expensive.
