Between 1954 and 1956, Breuer designed the Bantam Elementary School in Litchfield, CT. in association with the architectural firm of O'Connor and Kilham. Breuer designed a flat-roofed, binuclear building with two wings, whose structure was a combination of concrete block walls and a roof supported by wooden beams. The larger, rectangular wing contained the classrooms, a kindergarten and an enclosed outdoor play yard. A smaller, squarer wing contained the kitchen, locker rooms and a large multi-purpose room. Large glazed panels set in a pattern that resembled weaving illuminated the multi-purpose room. A narrow corridor lined with offices and fronted by a pergola connected to the two wings. After the building ceased to be a school, it housed the Geographical Area 18 Court and Post Office.
