Manufacturer of locks and builders' hardware. The company was founded in 1868 by Linus Yale, the inventor of the tumbler lock, and Henry Towne in Stamford, CT. The company was originally called the Yale Lock Manufacturing Co. but changed its name to the Yale and Towne Manufacturing Co. in 1883.

Ivy-league university located in New Haven, CT. The school was granted a charter in 1701 and renamed Yale College in 1718 after a donation by the Welsh merchant, Elihu Yale. Graduate and professional schools, such as an architecture school, were added in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
